This year, due to the ongoing war, a great number of Ukrainian nationals came to Poland, but they were mainly women with children and elderly people. Thus, we were faced with a large structural mismatch between workers and vacancies, especially in the area of heavier work, which is usually done by men. Despite this, it is estimated that about 2/3 of Ukrainian refugees of working age took up employment in Poland.
The annual survey, conducted by OTTO Work Force, showed that the main reason why Ukrainian citizens decided to work in Poland was higher wages. However, in the 2022 survey, for the first time, the highest number of indications was greater security – 45%. It was followed by higher wages (37%), the desire to provide a better life for the family (29%) and a better economic situation (28%).
Since 2017, the downward trend in job satisfaction in Poland continued, at which time the indicator reached its peak (94%). Subsequently, in 2020 and 2021, we observed a significant increase in job satisfaction in our country, until 2022 when we are dealing with a decrease in this indicator by 6 percentage points compared to last year.
2022 is a very difficult year for temporary workers from Ukraine staying in Poland. Only some of them came to Poland with their whole family. The majority of Ukrainian citizens are worried about their loved ones, as many as 60% of respondents indicated that the most difficult thing for them during their stay in Poland is separation from their family who stayed in Ukraine. For 35% of respondents, poor knowledge of the Polish language is also a major obstacle, and for 17% dealing with formalities and official matters in Poland.
